Racers Say the Nicest Things!
Humane Race 2006

Just a quick note of thanks for putting on such a great XC [cross country] meet yesterday. You and your crew of volunteers did a fine job and everyone should be congratulated.

All of the top runners I talked to commented how the race was indeed a true XC event -- very challenging course, no mile splits nor markers, plenty of up and downhills, no big finish line clock, no need to wear a watch. In fact, one fellow I talked to had the perfect quote, "This race is as close as you can get to running in it's purest form: draw a line in the dirt, say 'Go!' and the first one back wins." I can only add that I felt like I was a kid again and someone on the playground said, "Let's race each other around that field and up that hill into the woods."

So you take that validation of your race course and add in the great weather, the good food afterwards, the live bands, and the cool loot for the winners and you have one heck of an event. What more could you ask for?

Just wanted to congratulate you on another wonderful Humane Race this past weekend. Wow! Great job!

The whole morning was so much fun, so well-organized, and the product of what was obviously a tremendous effort on your part.

This was my 3rd time going to [The Humane Race] and each year it gets increasingly better, if that is possible! When my doctor scheduled unexpected surgery (minor) for me on April 26, my first and immediate thought was, "Oh no.... that's just before the BHS run!" I was crushed and so afraid I wouldn't be able to go.... but I finally got "permission" to stroll through most of the course, so my twin sister came down from Vermont with her dog to join me. It was her first time attending--but I don't think it will be her last! She had a blast too and was delighted to learn about your organization.

Thank you for all the time, work, and energy you devote to making the run/walk possible, for providing people like my sister and me the opportunity to support a great cause, and for all the good you do for the animals that benefit from what you do.

With sincerest thanks, gratitude, and respect,

Just wanted to thank all of the people involved in organizing yesterday's Humane Race. Sweet Pea and I traveled from the Boston area for the event and it was a long ride but worth every single moment.

We thought the people (and of course their dogs) were wonderful. The course was so nicely marked _ whoever blazed all those roots and rocks with orange paint was a real help to those of us who are used to running on pavement. The volunteers and the shelter staff were helpful and friendly.

The bands were great and the food was excellent.

Thank you for a great day and an excellent memory. We'll be back next year.

It took my dog, Sheba, and myself some 3 hours to get to [The Humane Race] from Newport, RI. Just a note to thank you ever so much for the impressive event at a wonderful setting on an awesome sunny day. Sheba was so excited at the start, she wanted to go right to the front and run with the "Big Dogs". Unfortunately for her she was towing an old man at the end of her leash!

We still managed to finish well and had a great time after the race with all the dogs and their enthusiastic owners. Yes, it's a long drive to run for less than 25 minutes but we hope to be able to return next year.

Never been to the Berkshires so we stayed for the weekend. Hiked some awesome trails on Saturday afternoon and stayed at the River View Farm B&B. (Excellent spot!) Sheba and I hiked some 15 miles on Sunday up to Mt. Williams, Mt. Fitch, up to Greylock and back down Hopper Trail in Williamstown. Awesome way to spend a weekend.

Thanks again for all your efforts for such a worthy cause!
